TS Gustav Property Damage

09/11/2008 -- Louisiana Revised Statute 47:1978.1 allows for adjustment of assessed value as a result of damage during a disaster or emergency declared by the Governor of Louisiana.  Governor Bobby Jindal declared a state-wide emergency with Hurricane Gustav.  If you sustained damage to your home or commercial property due to Gustav, the following procedure will be necessary to receive an adjustment on your assessed value.

  1. The adjustment must be made for the year in which damage has occurred on the percentage of fair market value provided for in the Constitution of Louisiana.
  2. Bring to the Assessor's office a copy of your insurance declaration page (proof of insurance) AND a copy of the insurance claims adjustment form showing the data of damage, type of damage and cost of damage.
  3. The request for an adjustment must be received by the Assessor's Office no later than December 31, 2008.
You may choose to mail in the above information.  If so, you will need to include a daytime phone number where you can be reached.

Once the request is received by the Assessor's Office, it will be turned over to the Appraisal Department for review.
